Natural herbal remedies have been used in Overcoming panic attacks and anxiety, but how effective are they? Some sufferers are afraid of the dangers of taking prescription anti-anxiety medication, such as possible addiction and side effects. Although natural remedies carry far less risks and are non-addictive, precaution still should be taken. Effectiveness and quality of certain products may range since the FDA does not strongly regulate herbal remedies.
Because natural remedies can be purchased practically anywhere without a prescription, it’s important to do a little research and shop around. You want to look for a decent product that is going to be the most effective at overcoming panic attacks, so don’t be afraid to ask the store clerk questions. Although containing natural ingredients, care should still be taken when using herbal remedies. It’s not recommended that natural remedies be taken over long periods. In addition following the correct dosage is important.
Herbal remedies are generally less potent than prescription anti-anxiety medication and may take a little longer to work. Studies have shown however that some natural alternatives do perform well in tests. Relying on herbal alternatives may not be the answer to cure panic attacks, however they can aid the process of recovery. The following are some common remedies for anxiety that sufferers report positive results for.
In one study passionflower demonstrated potency in sufferers of anxiety disorders. Sufferers may report more alertness, energy and increased productivity. Passionflower can be used as tincture or added to hot water to soothe nerves and tension. Side effects are rare but can include vomiting, wooziness and an accelerated heartbeat.
Combining valerian and passionflower together can create a much more potent remedy. Valerian is typically used for sleep difficulties, but it has also been used to treat anxiety. It has a calming affect on nerves as it balances neurotransmitters and chemicals in the brain. Because it has a sedating effect, it shouldn’t be taken if the user plans to drive or operate machinery. Some people may find that valerian helps cure panic attacks during sleep.
A common remedy for Anxiety And Depression that is widely available, is ST. John’s Worts. Sufferers of anxiety or depression who take St. John’s Worts often show improvement in mood and emotional health. In some countries, doctors actually prescribe St. John’s Worts for patients with anxiety and depression. A few other popular natural remedies are; kava, hops, lemon balm and catnip.
Using essential oils in massage provides another natural source for easing anxiety and stress. Aromatherapy has been used for centuries to treat health ailments and conditions. Alternative ways of using essential oils are; in an infuser or in the bathtub.
We are all unique and each person’s anxiety disorder may be slightly different to the next person, which means that natural remedies may also vary in effectiveness. Consideration should be taken too since natural remedies may also cause unwanted effects. It’s important to realize however, that natural remedies like prescription medication should not be relied upon to cure panic attacks. Moreover, herbal remedies should be avoided by pregnant women or those taking other medication.
Overcoming panic attacks and anxiety disorders requires change in habits and behaviors. Alternative remedies are really no more than aids that shouldn’t be seen as a long term solution. Mental health doctors worldwide have the same opinion that behavioral therapy is the best way to treat anxiety, and this is backed with studies. Unlike medication and herbal remedies, therapy treats both the symptoms and triggers of anxiety. For more on how to overcome anxiety, visit the Cure panic attacks blog now.
